But even though there was All promises he have and the ability to deliver astronomy discovery to a new era, public perception of projects led by NASA is rather tilted, with some even think it is a bad investment.

According to a survey conducted by Yougov, 70% of US adults have a favorable opinion about space projects that aim to open the mystery of the evolution of galaxies and the formation of the planet system. Yougov also conducted a poll about James Webb’s space telescope from the perspective of financial investment, when compared to other initiatives such as Hubble Space Telescope, sending astronauts back to the moon, and blowing probe to other planets. Interestingly, 60% of American citizens who were surveyed considered webb projects as useful investments, while a small part of the participants classified it as a very poor investment.

Of all the initiatives related to space, the Global Positioning System (GPS) considers the crown as the most valuable investment with a positive approval of 76% of the people surveyed. It was followed by a hubble telescope by 70%, while 66% of respondents classified international space stations as good investment.

But keep in mind that the survey only involves 1,000 people, which is a very small amount compared to the country’s population of more than 300 million. In addition, the webb telescope has just begun to show its potential, unlike other space projects that have existed for decades. So far, the first set of webb images has amazed the world with their unprecedented clarity, but many more have not yet come because they convey more observational data to earth.
